Itinerary

Day 1 → Cusco – Pacchanta – Jampa Camp

Begin before sunrise with a private journey into the southern Andes toward Pacchanta, surrounded by spectacular views of Ausangate and its highland valleys.

Hike toward Jampa Camp through alpine landscapes, grazing alpacas, and the sacred presence of Ausangate.

In the afternoon, participate in a traditional offering to Pachamama, guided by a local representative, before enjoying dinner and an overnight stay beneath the extraordinary Andean night sky.

Overnight Jampa Camp (approximately 4,500 meters / 14,764 feet above sea level).

Important Altitude Information

The trek begins in Pacchanta at approximately 4,300 meters (14,108 feet) above sea level and reaches Jampa Camp at approximately 4,500 meters (14,764 feet). Due to the altitude, we recommend maintaining a steady pace, staying well hydrated, and dressing in warm layers. Your guide will continuously monitor the group’s well-being to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.

Meals Included

The morning begins with a hot beverage and breakfast at camp as the first rays of sunlight illuminate the glaciers surrounding Ausangate.

You will then set out on the renowned Seven Lakes Circuit, one of the most spectacular routes in the Andes. Along the trail, you will encounter a collection of glacier-fed lakes displaying remarkable shades of deep blue, turquoise, and emerald green, creating a landscape of extraordinary beauty.

Among the highlights is Lake Otorongo, one of the most iconic points along the route and a favorite location for photography and scenic observation.

After completing the circuit, you will descend to Pacchanta, where you can enjoy the community’s natural hot springs, an ideal way to relax after the hike.

A traditional local lunch will follow before beginning the return journey to Cusco.

Important Altitude Information

During this day, the route reaches approximately 4,630 meters (15,190 feet) above sea level near Lake Otorongo. After spending a night at high altitude, most travelers find it easier to adapt to the mountain environment. Nevertheless, maintaining proper hydration, taking breaks when needed, and hiking at a comfortable pace remain essential.

Recommended Season (May – October)

The dry season offers the best conditions for trekking, with clear skies, excellent visibility, and generally more stable trails. Temperatures at camp may drop below freezing during the night.

Not Recommended (January – March)

During these months, rain, snowfall, and hailstorms can significantly affect trail conditions, reduce visibility, and increase the difficulty of the route.

Advance Reservation

Because of the logistical coordination required for camps, support staff, meals, and mountain operations, reservations should be made 15 to 20 days in advance.

Mandatory Acclimatization

As the entire experience takes place above 4,300 meters (14,108 feet) above sea level, it is essential to spend at least two to three days acclimatizing in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before beginning the expedition.

HOW PHYSICALLY DEMANDING IS THE JOURNEY?
This is a challenging high-altitude experience involving sustained hiking over uneven terrain. Good physical condition and previous hiking experience are strongly recommended.

IS ACCLIMATIZATION REQUIRED?
Yes. We recommend spending at least two or three nights in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before departure, as the journey reaches approximately 4,500 meters (14,764 feet).

WHAT WEATHER CONDITIONS SHOULD I EXPECT?
Mountain weather can change quickly. Days may be sunny, while nights can be exceptionally cold and occasionally below freezing. Warm layers, waterproof clothing, and proper hiking boots are essential.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR?
The most favorable conditions are generally from April to October. During the rainy season, the route may be adjusted according to weather and trail conditions.

WHAT IS THE ACCOMMODATIONS LIKE?
You will stay in a private mountain camp prepared for comfort in a remote setting. Facilities are naturally more limited than those of a hotel.

WILL THERE BE PHONE OR INTERNET COVERAGE?
Connectivity is extremely limited and should not be expected. Your guide will carry appropriate communication and safety equipment.
