Your journey to Ausangate begins before sunrise, as the Andes slowly awaken in the early morning light. As you ascend toward Pacchanta, you will notice how the surrounding landscape transforms not only the scenery but also the pace of the day itself. The air becomes crisper, the mountains more imposing, and the sense of remoteness increasingly profound.
The Seven Lakes Circuit offers an extraordinary opportunity to explore a collection of glacier-fed lakes nestled beneath the snow-capped slopes of Ausangate. Each lake reveals a different perspective of the surrounding wilderness, with vivid shades of turquoise and emerald contrasting against rugged peaks and expansive alpine terrain.

At the end of the trek, the natural hot springs of Pacchanta provide a well-deserved opportunity to relax and recover. Immersed in warm mineral waters with uninterrupted views of Ausangate Glacier, you can unwind while surrounded by one of the most remarkable mountain settings in Peru.
This high-altitude hike takes place at elevations ranging from approximately 4,300 meters (14,108 feet) above sea level in Pacchanta to a maximum altitude of around 4,630 meters (15,190 feet) near Lake China Otorongo.
At these elevations, oxygen levels are lower than at sea level. To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, your guide will lead the hike at a gradual and unhurried pace, adapting to the needs of each participant. We recommend using the trekking poles provided, dressing in thermal layers, and allowing yourself to fully enjoy the journey at your own pace.
Recommended Season (May – October)
The dry season offers the best conditions for visiting Ausangate and the Seven Lakes Circuit. Clear skies, excellent visibility, and favorable trail conditions allow travelers to fully appreciate the vivid colors of the lakes and the dramatic beauty of the surrounding glaciers.
Not Recommended During the Rainy Season (January – March)
This full-day experience is generally not recommended during the peak rainy season. At high elevations, rainfall can quickly turn into hailstorms or snowfall, significantly reducing visibility, creating slippery trail conditions, and bringing considerably colder temperatures. These factors may affect both safety and overall comfort.

To ensure the availability of your specialized guide, private transportation, and logistical coordination within a remote mountain community, reservations should be confirmed at least 5 days in advance.
Recommended Acclimatization
As the entire hike takes place above 4,300 meters (14,108 feet) above sea level and requires a moderate level of physical effort, we recommend spending one to two days in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before participating in the experience. Proper acclimatization will help ensure a more comfortable, safe, and rewarding adventure.
